A woman has died after she was hit by a van on a busy road connecting Leeds and Bradford.

The woman, in her 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene on Stanningley Bypass, near Pudsey Train Station, in the early hours of Saturday, police said.

Officers received calls reporting a pedestrian in the road shortly after 01:00 BST, before a further call was received a short time later reporting the collision.

The woman's family is being supported by specialist officers and inquiries remain ongoing, a spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said. They appealed to any witnesses, or anyone with dashcam footage, to get in touch.
