Homes have been evacuated after a shed containing highly flammable cylinders caught fire in Workington.

Emergency services have removed people living within 100m of the blaze on Bolton Street, which began at 17:30 BST.

A wider 200m cordon has been put in place to prevent anyone turning up at the scene.

Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service has declared a major incident but there are no reports of injuries.

A fire service spokesperson said: "The shed containes two acetylene cylinders, which are highly flammable."

A reception centre for evacuated people is being established at Carnegie Theatre on Finkle Street, Cumbria Police said.
