Two cats have been shot at in separate attacks on the same day in a Staffordshire town, leaving one of the animals dead.

Police said the fatally wounded cat was believed to have been shot by a pellet gun on St Michaels Road in Rugeley between 18:30 and 20:30 BST on 19 September.

They added officers were separately called to Brereton Road over another shooting, but on that occasion the pellet did not cause serious injury.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Staffordshire force.
