A fleet of road sweepers is looking a little brighter thanks to the work of a team of youngsters.

New designs have been added to the sides of sweepers working across East Lindsey following a children's competition.

Winners Nevaeh, nine, of Tattershall Brownies; Brooke, 11, from Hogsthorpe Primary Academy; and 10-year-old Lillie, from Mablethorpe Primary School, got to see their designs on the vehicles last week.

The council said the contest had turned the functional sweepers into "travelling pieces of local children's art".

The girls got to sit in the driver's seat of a sweeper and were presented with a certificate and a mini-Lego sweeper set.

Martin Foster, the council's portfolio holder for operational services, said: "Seeing the artwork on the side of the new sweepers is truly amazing. The children within our district are so talented and this shines through after seeing all of the lovely designs we received.

"Choosing the winning designs was not an easy task, but I am confident that the new sweepers will brighten our streets – not just by sweeping them but with the refreshing new designs."
