A groundsman whose pitch-perfect design went viral is the winner of an award celebrating creative lawn-mowing.

Joe Mecke-Davis became a social media star this summer after posting an image of his work at Westfields Football Club's Allpay Park ground in Hereford.

His design was entered in the 2025 Allett Creative Lawn Stripes Competition and he was crowned top mower on Thursday after winning 1,521 votes. The contest, run by Stafford-based company Allett Mowers, featured entries from America and Canada.

Mr Mecke-Davis's pattern at the club on Widemarsh Common took him about an hour and a half to complete, with further 30-minute spells to fine tune his work every few days.

He previously told the BBC he "absolutely loved" creating a decorative pitch.

"Most people can't do it," he said.

"All the bigger clubs have just got to have standard straight lines, but luckily, in non-league, we can do whatever we want."
