Driver dies in crash with van on A1

A man has died in a crash between a car and a van on the A1 in Nottinghamshire.

The driver of the car, a man in his 70s, was treated at the scene on the southbound carriageway, after the crash at about 09:00 BST on Saturday.

Nottinghamshire Police said he died of his injuries.

The van driver was not injured and the force said he was assisting officers with their inquiries.

East Midlands Ambulance Service and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service also attended.

The road was closed in both directions between Blyth Services and the A57 at Worksop.

National Highways had diversions in place until the road reopened at about 18:30.

Sgt Mark Baker, of the serious collision investigation unit, said: "Our thoughts are with this man's family and friends at this difficult time."

The force is asking witnesses to get in touch.
