A "substantial" sum of cash has been stolen during a burglary at a house in Londonderry, police have said.

It happened sometime between 23:00 BST on 21 August and 11:20 BST the following day in the Beechwood Avenue area.

A police spokesman said the front door of the house had been forced open and the money taken from a bedroom along with a quantity of medals.

The householder was not in the property at the time.

Police have appealed for anyone with information or who saw suspicious activity in the area to come forward.
