Marine lake closed for a week for planned works

A seaside lake popular with swimmers is to shut for a week while planned improvement work takes place.
The council explained the work on Weston-super-Mare’s Marine Lake, part of a £20m government investment for the town, would take place from 9-16 September to take advantage of a period of low tides.
"It involves updates to the lake's sluice gates, surveys and preparation work on the lower walkway, all of which supports wider plans to improve the area," said councillor Mike Solomon.
He added: "I can't wait to see the results of the improvements we have in the pipeline over the coming months."
Steps and ramps
More work will take place in the coming months, including upgrading walkways, steps and ramps, and re-opening the public toilets, following a refurbishment.
The improvements are part of a programme of work across Weston-super-Mare following North Somerset Council’s successful bid for £20m from the government.
It includes the restoration of the crumbling Birnbeck Pier, as well as improvements to Grove Park and the Tropicana venue.
Mr Solomon said: “This work will help us progress our exciting plans for Marine Lake which we hope people will enjoy in style for many years to come."
He added: “It's been great seeing so many people, especially young people and families, enjoying their time in, on or around the lake this year."
It is hoped when it reopens at 09:00 BST on Monday 16 September, the expected high tide will naturally refill the lake.
The work is due to be completed next year.
