A man has been arrested after a fight broke out between two men in Hereford, that led to the police receiving multiple calls from the public.
Officers went to the Commercial Street area at about 23:30 BST on Saturday, after a man in his 40s was punched and then fell to the ground, hitting his head. He was taken to hospital with a serious head injury.
A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) and remains in custody.
Det Insp Colin Berry said claims had been made online about weapons being used, but added: "We would also like to reassure people that there were no weapons involved despite some commentary on social media saying there were."
A cordon in place around the area was lifted on Sunday morning.
Police said no other people were involved and there had been no wider risk to the public.
