Man dies after alleged attack on Paisley street

A man has died after an alleged attack in Paisley.

The 39-year-old was found on Greenock Road at about 02:35 and taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where he died a short time later.

Police said a 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death and inquiries are ongoing.

Greenock Road is closed between Mossvale Lane and Albion Street and police have advised people to avoid the area.

Det Insp Gordon Smith said the force's thoughts were with the family and friends of the victim.

He added: "Officers are offering support and keeping them updated with the progress of our investigation."

Additional officers are still in the area and anyone with information on the incident has been urged to contact police, external.
