Hull's Freedom Festival is once again expanding beyond the city's boundaries as it heads into East Yorkshire and North East Lincolnshire.

The festival, which offers a programme of ticketed and free street theatre, art and music, was set up in 2007 to mark Hull's links with anti-slavery campaigner William Wilberforce.

It will return to Bridlington and also host performances in Goole and Cleethorpes from 26 to 29 August.

Festival director Phil Hargreaves said: "As a child who grew up in a low-income, single-parent family, I know how important it is to have high-quality, accessible culture on your doorstep. This drives me to ensure inspiring performances reach broader communities."

The expansion is part of the Freedom On Tour Programme, which took the festival out of the city to Bridlington for the first time in 2023.

Councillor Nick Coultish, East Riding of Yorkshire Council cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism said it was returning to the seaside town following the "success of last year's event".

He said: "It's fantastic that people in our region will have the chance to enjoy the vibrant spirit of the Freedom Festival right on their doorstep, and we encourage residents and visitors to attend the free events on offer."

The performances include Possê, by Sound de Secà - a lively street show; Taroo, by Moroccan artist Said Mouhssine, which combines parkour, circus skills and storytelling; circus show Human Flag; musical experience Electric Feel and one-man band ICHI.
