A major Leicestershire road has now reopened after a crash involving a car and a lorry.

One lane along the A42 was closed northbound between junction 13 Flagstaff Island at Ashby de la Zouch and junction 14 Tonge Interchange.

Police, firefighters, East Midlands Ambulance Service and National Highways traffic officers were called to the scene on Tuesday.

National Highways said at one point, there were two miles of tailbacks and delays of about 20 minutes.

The incident comes just a day after emergency services were called to a section of the A42 between junction 11 and junction 12 after a three-vehicle crash.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said five people were checked for injuries by paramedics, with one person receiving first aid.
