A power outage which disabled Guernsey Airport's hold baggage screening system has been resolved, Guernsey Electricity (GE) says.

A post on the airport's social media pages said "contingency processes" were implemented after problems on Monday evening, but processing would "take longer than usual".

Mike Lloyd, head of distribution at GE, said the utility received reports of a high voltage fault in the Forest area at about 16:40 BST on Monday.

"The airport itself was not off-supply during the outage, but it is possible that any voltage drop experienced at the commencement may have impacted some of their processes," he said.

Mr Lloyd said engineers reconnected supply about four hours from the initial outage, which impacted an estimated 280 customers.

Travellers were advised to make sure they arrived earlier than normal, and to "anticipate longer queues when checking in hold baggage and going through the Security Area" until further notice.

In order to prioritise processing hold baggage, airport staff said they were unable to offer the Twilight Check-In service, external until the screening system was back online.

Airport bosses thanked passengers for their patience and understanding.

Mr Lloyd said: "We would like to apologise sincerely to any customer impacted by this outage, and also to thank anyone affected for their patience as the team worked as quickly and safely as possible to restore power supplies.”
