Guernsey's Edward T Wheadon House (ETWH) will be closing for two days, on Friday 8 and Monday 11 December, to install new mains electricity equipment.

During the closure, government offices will not be accessible to the public or staff.

The States said that customers were being encouraged to have benefits paid into a bank account where possible, and to report any relevant changes of circumstances, or additional information to support an existing claim, before the closure.

The building is scheduled to reopen on Tuesday 12 December.

States Director of Operations Ed Ashton said: "Due to the nature of the equipment, the building will have to be completely powered down and disconnected from the mains supply.

"This means the building does have to temporarily close.

"But we are doing everything we can to ensure business as normal for the two working days that the building will be inaccessible to staff and the public."

Payment systems

Benefit payments were to continue to be made as normal, officials said.

However, there would be a limited ability to produce cheques or vouchers during the closure, they added.

Many online payments - for example, for parking tickets - can still be paid through the Pay It system.

Details about driver and vehicle licensing services could also be found online, such as reporting a lost or stolen driving licences, officials said.

Rent payments from social housing tenants can be made online, at any post office, or by phoning 226500.

Users can contact benefits staff by phoning 221000, or by emailing at incomesupport@gov.gg, benefits@gov.gg or pensionsallowances@gov.gg.
