A two-year petition calling for a Trader Joe's store in Southampton has ended without a single signature.
Trader Joe’s is a well-known US grocery store.
The campaign, posted on Southampton City Council's website, appears to have mistaken the Hampshire port city for a township in Pennsylvania.
The confused petitioner said the store would be "beneficial to the community".

The e-petition had been active on the petition page of the city council’s website since 2021.
It read: “We the undersigned petition the council to make a Trader Joe’s on Street Rd and Davisville Rd where the old Acme was.
“I believe this is beneficial to the community as there is no Trader Joe’s within a five-mile radius. The closest one is 20 mins away.”
It ended on the 27 October after failing to garner a single signature – not even one from the petitioner themselves.
Southampton seems to have been confused with Southampton in Pennsylvania, a township of about 8,000 residents.
There still appears to be no Trader Joe's on Street Road and Dashville Road.
Southampton City Council's official guidance on petitions states they "should be relevant to some issue on which the council has powers or duties, or on which it has shared delivery responsibilities.
"It should be submitted in good faith and be decent, honest and respectful."
