A taxi driver who raped a young woman in his car after picking her up has been jailed for his "monstrous actions".

Dediki Mosi, 37, of Bolton, sexually assaulted the 29-year-old after he collected her in Wigan on 19 September 2020 following a night out with friends.

Det Con Sally-Anne Skellern said: "Mosi should have been the person who got her home safely, instead he raped her in his taxi."

He pleaded not guilty but was convicted by a jury of rape and two counts of sexual assault at Manchester Crown Court and given a 10-year sentence.

'Sexual predator'

The woman was praised by Det Con Skellern for her "bravery and persistence" in helping officers with their case to put Mosi behind bars over the last four years.

He was arrested on suspicion of rape in October 2020 and charged two years later.

During a police interview when Mosi was questioned, he said, "What rape?", the court heard.

He also claimed the dashcam he used in his car was broken on the night of the rape.

Det Con Skellern said Mosi had "spotted his victim and took advantage of her" after she had been out for a meal and drinks with her friends.

“Mosi is a sexual predator and his monstrous actions saw him prey on a vulnerable young woman, it is unspeakable and I’m glad he is behind bars and the streets are a safer place for women without him," she said.

“Our thoughts are with the victim as she tries to move forward with her life after this ordeal."

Greater Manchester Police want "all members of our community, especially women and girls, to feel they are safe when going about their daily lives", she added.
