A police officer who was filmed dragging a man who was sleeping rough across a pavement and then standing on him will face no further action.

The incident, in which the homeless 31-year-old man claimed to have been injured, was investigated by Greater Manchester Police.

The force said the officer's actions were "wrong" but that there would not be any disciplinary action after having been reprimanded and given training.

Homeless charities said the incident, which happened outside Manchester Town Hall last September but came to light in March this year, was "appalling and degrading".

'Put this right'

A spokesman for GMP said: "Through being reprimanded by the city centre’s most senior officer and being placed on wider additional training, our head of professional standards has concluded the most appropriate form of action was taken afterwards to try to put this right."

Speaking in March, the man dragged by the officer, who was in a sleeping bag when it happened, said: "I was telling her I need to sleep.

"But she stamped on my stomach with her foot.

"It caused me problems - I had a fever and in the following hours I had blood in my urine."
