A 62-year-old furniture store worker died after his Skodia Fabia car crashed into a lorry parked in a lay-by.

Phillip Howarth, of Cambridge, died at the scene of the crash on the A14 near Swaffham Bulbeck, shortly after 17:00 BST on Sunday.

Mr Howath's family paid tribute to a "loving husband" and said he worked at Glasswells, a furniture store in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

Police said the lorry driver suffered minor injuries.

'Joyous laugh'

“Phil was a loving husband, dad and co-worker," said the family in a statement issued via Cambridgeshire Police.

“He loved music, especially playing his guitar and listening to The Beatles.

"He loved being outside in nature and loved going to the Lake District.

“He had a joyous laugh and sense of fun and was very fond of a ‘dad joke’, much to the annoyance of his sons.

“He worked at Glasswells... and enjoyed working there and working with all the people there."

A LinkedIn post indicated that Mr Howarth, who lived in Tiverton Way, was a sales consultant.

The family statement added: "He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and he leaves a massive hole in all our hearts."

Police are appealing for witnesses and asked anyone with information about the crash to get in touch.
