A 22-year-old motorcyclist has died in a crash in Haywards Heath, according to Sussex Police.
The crash happened on A272 Rocky Lane, near the junction with Cedar Avenue, at about 22:20 BST on Friday, the force said.
Police are investigating whether the motorcycle had been involved in a collision with a BMW and Skoda car.
Police officers who were nearby gave him treatment before the ambulance arrived, but the local man died at the scene, a police spokesperson said.
The police spokesperson said since a police vehicle was in the vicinity at the time the crash, the force has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct in what they said was "standard procedure".
The man's family is being supported by specialist officers, the spokesperson said.
The force urged anyone who may have seen the motorcycle being ridden before the crash or has footage of what happened to get in contact.
