Two Birmingham business partners have set themselves the audacious challenge of setting a Guinness World Record for the biggest ever car boot sale.

To succeed, childhood best friends from Sutton Coldfield James Taroni and Andrew Walsh will need to attract more than 1,024 traders.

The event has been scheduled to take place on Sunday at a site next to the Belfry Golf Course with gates open to the public from 04:00 until 14:00 BST.

Mr Taroni, owner of Eboot Markets & Car Boots, said he was aware of sellers coming from as far as France and Scotland to be at the event. He added: "This isn't an attempt, we're going to achieve it!"

The current record was achieved in Sweden in 2016 and Mr Taroni said he is expecting 1,200 at his event.

"We're expecting a mammoth, wonderful car boot sale and the other bonus is we're letting every charity in free of charge to help boost our already packed car boot," he said.

"We need people to come together and help us make history."

Mr Taroni said the event would be an action packed family day out.

"We've got a live afternoon firework display, we've got bouncy castles, we've got live music - it's going to be a fun day and we're expecting 30,000 to 40,000 people," he said.

Mr Taroni encouraged more charities to get involved and said he was expecting to raise about £50,000 for good causes at the event.

He added: "I'm a big believer, if you can help people that's what we want, that's why our car boot has just gone bonkers."
