People have been evacuated from properties after a suspected grenade was found near a busy road, police have said.

Greater Manchester Police said the discovery close to Gorton Road, North Reddish was not believed to be suspicious.

Bomb disposal officers have been called to remove the device after it was found about midday.

Properties have been evacuated "as a precautionary measure", the force added.
