Jersey Golf's president Juanita Adlington said she was "speechless" after a group from the island were honoured at the England Golf Awards.

On Tuesday, Jersey Ladies Golf Development Group won the Women & Girls' Trailblazer of the Year award.

A total of 23 women joined three struggling clubs on the island, a 9% increase on 2023.

Adlington said she has been "inspired" to get more women to play golf.

Jersey Ladies Golf Development Group was formed after members of Les Mielles, Les Ormes and St Clements all reached out for support.

Adlington 'just so proud'

Citing low membership numbers, the clubs also said they were struggling to recruit new female members.

"All the people in [the awards] room love golf, want golf to succeed and just want it to keep driving forward," Adlington told BBC Radio Jersey.

"It has reinvigorated me to keep thinking what can we do next?"

Speaking of the moment she was given the award, she said: "I'm still a little bit shocked, and am not often speechless".

"I love golf, am passionate about it, and am just so proud of these women."
