Running group launched to support teenage girls

A support group has been set up to provide a safe, inclusive and non-competitive environment for teenage girls to run together.
See Her Run is a Jersey-based group for girls in school years 10 to 13 that wants to encourage them to take up running.
It is aimed at those graduating from the Jersey Sport’s Couch to 5k scheme, external, or any girl who wants to run for at least 30 minutes at any pace.
Group founder Ceri Tinley said See Her Run was about encouraging girls to run twice a week while spending time together.
The group was launched following a successful application to the Jersey Support in Sport Grant and will be run by a team of volunteers, all of whom have an interest in running or run leaders qualified with British Athletics.
'Do something different'
Mrs Tinley said: “While Jersey has plenty of adult run clubs, the only ones available for younger runners are competitive.
"We want to do something different for teenage girls who might not want to go down that route. We hope this will remove any barriers to running and regular exercise."
She added that the group would also provide training to any female runners aged 18-25 that wanted to become qualified leaders and help lead weekly runs.
Membership is free and once people sign up, they can meet twice a week at Freedom Tree, St Helier, at 16:30 BST on Tuesdays and Thursday from 17 September.
