An eight-month-old baby and two toddlers aged under two have been discharged from hospital in Glasgow after their pram was hit by a trailer in Dumfries.

All three were taken to the Royal Children's Hospital in a serious condition after the accident on 13 October.

Police said they believed a trailer had become detached from a Mitsubishi Outlander.

Inquiries into the incident - on the town's Pleasance Avenue - are ongoing.

Emergency services were sent to the scene at about 15:15 on the day of the accident and the road was closed for several hours.

The three young children were initially taken to Dumfries Infirmary before being transferred.

An 18-year-old woman, understood to be a childminder, was also taken to hospital and subsequently discharged.

One witness described the scene as the "most distressing and horrific thing I have ever seen in my life".

Police said their investigation into the crash was ongoing and asked anyone with information to contact them, external.
