About £9,000 worth of stolen tobacco, cigarettes and perfume have been seized at London Stansted Airport, police have said.

Officers arrested three men at the terminal on Monday following information received about thefts last month.

Essex Police said a further £14,000 in goods believed to be stolen were recovered at addresses linked to the men, as well as £1,000 in cash.

Insp Tom Stokes said: "This is a huge volume of stolen goods kept out of criminal hands."

Officers said 432 packets of cigarettes, 311 pouches of tobacco and 27 bottles of perfume were recovered.

A 33-year-old and 41-year-old from Braintree, and a 33-year-old from Takeley, were arrested on suspicion of theft and were released on police bail.
