A teenager is in critical condition after being injured in a car crash.

The 19-year-old was a passenger in a Ford Fiesta that left the road and hit a wall and parked vehicle on Rutherford Road, in the Red House area of Sunderland, at 08:20 BST on Sunday.

The driver of the car - a 33-year-old man - left the scene but has since been arrested, Northumbria Police said.

Meanwhile the injured teenager remains in hospital for treatment.
