A refurbishment of Gainsborough bus station will make it more user-friendly, officials have said.

New shelters, benches, bins, lighting and CCTV have been installed and the layout has also been updated.

The work was carried out as part of a larger £18m improvement project for the Lincolnshire town.

It includes a new cinema, signage and upgrades to the town's green spaces to make it more attractive for residents and visitors.

Councillor Trevor Young, leader of West Lindsey District Council, said the bus station work has created a "more user-friendly environment".

Shelters removed from the station have been given to local parish councils to be reused elsewhere in the district.

Matt Cranwell, managing director for Stagecoach East Midlands, said: "We’re pleased to witness the transformation of Gainsborough Bus Station.

"The recent enhancements include more modern fixtures and bus shelters, as well as a thorough deep clean."
