Flats and offices plan for former nightclub site

Two blocks of flats and five offices would be built on the former nightclub site

The site of a former nightclub could be turned into flats and offices after plans for the development were submitted.

The planning application proposes to build 63 flats and five "enterprise units" at the old Zanzibar nightclub site in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire.

It was lodged with Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council by Aspire Housing, which bought the land on Marsh Parade in 2019 - 15 years after the club closed.

There were previous plans to redevelop the buildings into an antiques dealership and restaurant, but they remained derelict until they were demolished in 2021.

A spokesperson for Aspire Housing said the flats would be housed within two four-storey buildings while the enterprise units would be in a standalone single-storey block.

They said the offices would be owned by the borough council and be targeted at independent start-up businesses.
