A series of road closures have been announced ahead of Kasabian's headline show in their home city of Leicester this weekend.

The show on Saturday will be called Summer Solstice II and comes less than a week after the indie band's surprise performance at Glastonbury.

An estimated 35,000 people are expected to travel to Victoria Park for the band's homecoming show, according to the city council.

It will be the band's first major gig in the city in 10 years and follows the rockers' previous Summer Solstice show at the same park in 2014.

Leicester City Council said road closures and restrictions would be in place between 06:00 BST on Saturday to midnight to ensure the "smooth running of the event".

Granville Road will be completely shut, while Regent Road, London Road and Victoria Park Road would be partly closed.

One-way restrictions will be in place on University Road and Regent Road between Tigers Way and University Road.

Gates are set to open at 15:30 and the authority has advised fans to arrive before 20:00 "as queues at this time could be in excess" of an hour.

The council said about 60% of ticket holders lived locally and encouraged them to "travel to the concert as sustainably as possible".

A free bus service will be extended for passengers travelling to and from the concert and up to 3,000 additional pre-bookable parking spaces had been arranged within walking distance of the venue, the authority added.

It said it would also extend existing residents' parking schemes in Clarendon Park, with temporary schemes introduced in streets off London Road and in Stoneygate to prevent unauthorised parking in the areas closest to the venue.

Rupert Bedder, highways network manager, said the council had "worked closely" with organisers to "help minimise any impact on local residents".

"Things will be busier than normal on the day of the event, but we’re confident that the extra measures being put in place by the organisers will meet the demands of festival goers and ensure that the rest of the city remains be open for business," he added.
