Police have urged people to avoid the area around North Street

A man has suffered life-changing injuries after being assaulted in Derbyshire.

Emergency services were called to North Street in Alfreton at 08:50 BST on Wednesday.

The man was taken to hospital where he has been treated for his injuries.

Derbyshire Police said two men have been arrested in connection with the attack.

The force said officers remained at the scene throughout Wednesday, with road closures in North Street at the junction with The Crescent.

Police also partially closed Brook Avenue.
