A Warwickshire learning disability charity forced to move sites due to a rent hike said its new site would enable it to expand.

People in Action, which supports about 200 people, relocated from Bedworth to Bermuda Park on the outskirts of Nuneaton.

The organisation, founded in 1985, hosts adult activity sessions and provides residential care and supporting living.

Executive director Raj Odedra said the larger premises would allow it to grow and develop services.

'Work more efficiently'

A proposed rent increase by private landlords at its previous site necessitated the move, the charity said.

"The rents were becoming far too high. We looked in to our reserves and after a discussion with the charity commission we decided to purchase this building," said Mr Odedra.

"Within our 10 to 15-year plan the building will pay for itself. It just means we can work more efficiently, we can expand further."

He added the increased space would also help teams work together more effectively.

The new site was officially opened last month by local dignitaries including MP Marcus Jones.

One of those attending, Joe, said he enjoyed meeting up with friends and doing different activities.

"I... like the quiz this afternoon and also karaoke on a Wednesday and bingo on a Thursday," he said.

“I like it here… all my friends are here.”
