One of Jersey's lifeboats is to have new engines fitted next year.

Jersey Lifeboat Association (JLA) said the Sir Max Aitken III would have two Baudouin engines installed by marine engineers DK Collins.

The JLA said a technical review had confirmed the Tyne-class steel lifeboat was in "excellent" condition and the new engines would extend its service life and make it faster.

The association said the engines were due to be received from France at the end of the year and the refit was scheduled to begin early in the new year.

JLA chairman Paul Richardson said: "We're delighted that this important work will take place here in Jersey.

"This upgrade will strengthen our ability to assist those in trouble at sea around our beautiful island for many years to come."
