A school nurse who helped save a pupil's life has received an award.

Julie Conlen administered CPR to the child who was experiencing a medical emergency while at school in April. The pupil went on to make a full recovery after hospital treatment.

Ms Conlen won the Judges' Choice Award at NHS England South West Community and Primary Care Nursing Awards.

Swindon Borough Council leader Jim Robbins said: “What Julie did is nothing short of amazing."

“I’m honoured to have received the Judges’ Choice Award," Ms Conlen said.

“This recognition was a result of a collaborative effort between myself and the dedicated school staff, and I am proud to have contributed to managing the medical emergency.

“School nurses have built strong partnerships across many Swindon schools, and this award highlights the strength and importance of these relationships.”

Ms Conlen was also a finalist in the Children and Young Peoples Award category.

Mr Robbins added: “I’m so proud to have Julie and so many other staff like her working in our schools and changing lives every single day."
