Police have arrested two people on suspicion of attempted murder after a teenager was shot at in a street.

The attack took place at about 17:45 BST on Monday in Hampden Crescent, Gorton, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

A 19-year-old has been taken to hospital with serious injuries, but they were not believed to be life-threatening.

The force said a 15-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in custody for questioning.

'Targeted attack'

Officers were called to the area following reports of a firearm discharge.

Det Sup Gareth Jenkins said they believe the incident was a "targeted attack" with no wider risk to the public.

He said: “Extra patrols have been deployed for reassurance and I would urge anyone with concerns, or information to share, to speak with them.

"Guns have no place on our streets and we are determined to hold those responsible for this senseless act to account."

He also urged anyone with any CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage or information that could aid the investigation to get in touch with the force.
