A man who deliberately drove into a pedestrian, breaking his leg, has been jailed for nearly seven years.

Ashley Sherred, 33, appeared at Salisbury Crown Court earlier after pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and dangerous driving.

He was also sentenced for dangerous driving in relation to another incident, where he fled from police and rammed a police vehicle.

Wiltshire Police's investigating officer DC Dan Smith said Sherred's actions "left the innocent victim with significant injuries".

Sherred was jailed for six years and 10 months and disqualified from driving for four years from the day of his release.

On 10 May, Sherred was seen driving a blue Ford Fiesta recklessly in Pinewood Close in Salisbury, doing wheel spins and handbrake turns.

When the victim came out of his house to confront Sherred about his driving, he deliberately mounted the pavement and hit him.

Wiltshire Police said the victim, a man in his 40s, suffered a broken leg in the incident.

Sherred, of Southampton Road, Salisbury, left the scene but was arrested later that day.

In a seperate incident on 31 August 2024, Sherred was see driving dangerously while drunk in Salisbury city centre.

After failing to stop for police, he was pursued through Bemerton Heath and Wilton, driving recklessly and colliding with a fence.

His vehicle was spotted at Dairyhouse Bridge Caravan Site, at which point Sherred reversed into an officer's vehicle multiple times in an effort to escape.

Sherred left the car and ran, but was found and arrested.

Officer 'in fear'

Investigating officer Det Con Dan Smith thanked the victim and the wider public for their help with the investigation

"The victim simply wanted to speak with him in relation to Sherred's antisocial driving in a quiet, residential part of Salisbury, and Sherred has instead used his vehicle as a weapon to collide with him.

"Sherred was also sentenced for an incident in Salisbury last year, when he drove a vehicle across Salisbury heavily intoxicated before ramming a police vehicle, leaving the officer in fear for his own safety.

"We will not tolerate driving and violence like this in Wiltshire."
