A man has been arrested after a pedestrian suffered serious leg injuries from being hit by a car in a "targeted" incident.

Wiltshire Police said a man in his 40s was hit by a blue Ford Fiesta while stood on Pinewood Close's pavement in Bemerton Heath, Salisbury, on Saturday evening.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent. He remains in custody.

Det Sgt Matthew Goldring said: "This was a targeted incident in broad daylight in which a pedestrian has suffered serious injuries."

The Fiesta was being driven in a dangerous and reckless manner prior to the incident, police added.

Officers are still searching for the vehicle, which is a 09-plated blue Ford Fiesta and may have been abandoned.

Det Sgt Goldring added: "We have arrested a man in connection with the incident, although the vehicle remains outstanding.

"We have already spoken to witnesses at the scene, but if you have any information or dash cam footage of the vehicle prior to or following the collision, please get in touch."
