Cliff fall leads to closure of coastal footpath

Teignbridge District Council said "significant sized rocks" had fallen onto the path

A cliff fall in Devon has led to the closure of a coastal footpath, according to the local authority.

A Facebook post from Teignbridge District Council said a section of path had been closed at Lee Mount in Dawlish between the steps from Early's Wall and a large viewing shelter.

The council said "significant sized rocks" had fallen onto the path and "overhanging sections now remain exposed which potentially could fall at some point".

The post added there would be regular inspections and a decision on whether a permanent closure was required would be made in due course.

"Barrier fencing with appropriate warning signage has been placed on the closed section and we would advise anyone walking in the area to avoid this section of the path," the council added.

A spokesperson said access to the cliff-top park at Lee Mount from Marine Parade, Boat Cove, Early's Wall and Coryton Cove could be made via the pedestrian footbridge over the railway and joining the remaining path from there.
