Man dies two weeks after suspected assault

A man in his 50s who police believe was assaulted just before Christmas has died in hospital.

Norfolk Constabulary said the alleged victim was found with serious injuries in Regent Road, Great Yarmouth, on 22 December.

Officers said he was targeted inside a communal area of a block of flats on Malakoff Close in the town.

A man from Great Yarmouth is charged with causing grievous bodily harm and a second man, who was previously arrested for the same offence, has been released on bail.

The man died at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge on Thursday, the force said.

His family were being supported by specially trained officers, a spokesperson added.

Police said a post-mortem examination was due to take place in "the next few days".
