Mum injured as boy, 4, crashes vintage tractor at event

A woman was injured when her four-year-old son accidentally started a vintage tractor at a charity event, organisers have said.

Cars were also hit in the incident which happened at a Meet the Farmer day at Wroxham Barns, Norfolk, at about 12:30 BST on Saturday,

Wroxham Barns and Wroxham Bure Valley Rotary Club, who organised the event, said it remained "unknown" how the boy was able to start the tractor as the keys had been "removed from the vehicle".

The East of England Ambulance Service said the woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A joint statement from the organisers said: "The family were looked after by the event organisers until help arrived.

"A thorough risk assessment had been made in advance of the event and additional further precautions were taken for the following day, including disconnecting all batteries on all tractors.

"Wroxham Barns and Wroxham Bure Valley Rotary Club take health and safety very seriously, and how the child was able to start the vehicle remains unknown."

It added that Wroxham Barns would support and provide information for any forthcoming investigation.

As first reported by the EDP, external, the event had been organised to raise money for Norfolk and Norwich SEND Association (Nansa) and the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).

An ambulance spokesperson said: "An ambulance and ambulance officer vehicle were sent to the scene.

"The woman, who had sustained minor injuries, was transported to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital for further assessment and treatment."
