A four-storey hotel could be built at a Norfolk racetrack as part of ambitious plans to develop the site.

MotorSport Vision, the owners of Snetterton Circuit, have lodged proposals with Breckland Council for new guest accommodation at the site.

The plan forms part of a wider scheme to expand the existing course with offices, research facilities and a state-of-the-art simulation centre offering virtual driving experiences.

But a 135-bedroom hotel would be the centrepiece of the plans, described by developers as a "landmark feature" which would be visible from the A11.

The circuit sits on a former RAF airfield and saw its first race more than 70 years ago.

It now hosts rounds of the Kwik Fit British Touring Car, Bennetts British Superbike and British GT Championships as well as festivals and car shows.

As reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the plan would offer an alternative to existing camping facilities.

MotorSport Vision's owner, former Formula One racing driver Jonathan Palmer, said the development would give "new life to the circuit and bring new race teams, motorsport businesses and advanced engineering firms to the area".

Breckland Council will decide whether to approve the application in due course.
