Man arrested after woman and child injured

A man has been arrested following an alleged assault which left a woman and child needing hospital treatment.

Durham Police said it was called to reports of an "ongoing domestic incident at a house" in Grainger Street, Darlington, shortly after 21:40 BST on Wednesday.

The woman and 17-month-old were taken to hospital for treatment where the child remains in a stable condition while the woman was later discharged, police said.

A 32-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a controlled drug, and taken into custody.
