Visitors to museums in Hull in 2023/2024 have exceeded pre-lockdown numbers, the city council has said.
The authority said 383,000 people went to see the city’s free museums and galleries, up 13% on the total for 2019/20.
Councillor Rob Pritchard said Hull’s museums were “some of the best in the country”.
The authority said the reopening of Wilberforce House in May 2023 helped with the increase of visitor numbers.
The Museums Quarter attractions - Streetlife Museum, Hull and East Riding Museum of Archaeology and Wilberforce House - attracted their highest visitor figures since 2017/18, with more than 228,000 people visiting.
The Ferens Art Gallery drew more than 151,000, up 12% on 2019/20.
Jane Avison, the council's museums and gallery manager, added: “We’re delighted to see the museums attracting such high numbers of visitors, and to have beaten the pre-lockdown visitor figures is fantastic news.
“We’ve got lots of exciting exhibitions and events coming up over the next 12 months and we look forward to welcoming even more people."
