Work has begun on a new medical centre that will offer tests, checks and scans so people can receive potentially life-saving treatment more quickly.

Wye Valley NHS Trust was granted planning permission in May for the £18m community diagnostic centre (CDC) off the A49 Holmer Road, Hereford.

"This centre will be instrumental in speeding up the diagnosis of illnesses like cancer and heart disease, to ensure they are treated more quickly," said Alan Dawson from the trust.

The CDC in Hereford is one of 160 clinics being opened across England to allow patients access to tests and scans outside of hospital.

"There’s no doubt that the new centre will lead to improved patient experience and outcomes and will contribute to shorter waits for people from Herefordshire and beyond,” said Mr Dawson.

The new building, which is going on land behind B&Q in Hereford, will house a range of facilities, including MRI, CT, X-ray and ultrasound equipment.
