Islanders will be able to apply for passports via an online platform from 2027, the Guernsey Border Agency has said.

The change was part of a UK-wide digitisation project to streamline the application process, a Border Agency spokesperson said.

Anyone wanting to apply for a passport currently has to fill in paper forms.

The Border Agency's Immigration and Nationality Team would be working with His Majesty's Passport Office (HMPO) on the Online Passport Project, alongside counterparts in Jersey, the Isle of Man and Gibraltar, the spokesperson added.

Islanders could be contacted by the HMPO team and asked to share their thoughts about the plans as part of customer research.

Further information about the new online system was to be issued next year, the spokesperson added.

The cost of a standard adult passport in Guernsey rose from £100 to £107 in June, with a standard child's passport having risen from £69 to £74.

Fast-track passport application fees have risen to £178 for an adult and £145 for a child.

The Border Agency said the charges brought Guernsey's passport pricing in line with the UK Home Office, which raised fees on 10 April.
