Two councillors said there was high demand for the storage site near the village of Braithwell

Plans for a caravan storage site on agricultural land have been recommended for refusal by planners.

Up to 642 mobile homes would be stored off Ashton Lane in Braithwell under the proposals.

Doncaster councillors Martin Greenhalgh and Nigel Cannings argued there was high demand for the facility.

But council planning officers said the site was green belt land and the planning application should be turned down at a meeting on Tuesday.

Applicant Pawson Group said there was a "pressing need" for caravan sites in the area, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The proposals include plans for a wildlife area at the site.

But Doncaster Council's planning team said any benefits would not make up for the "harms" caused to the green belt.

They said: "The site is not an appropriate location for the proposed development due to its countryside location and poor levels of accessibility."

A final decision will be made by councillors at the meeting.
