Months of roadworks scheduled for East Lancs Road

Parts of East Lancs Road will be closed for an electricity upgrade

Four months of roadworks are scheduled along one of Merseyside's busiest roads.
Parts of East Lancs Road, also known as the A580, will be closed from 9 August to 8 December as part of a £40m upgrade to the region's electricity network
Construction is set to start on the eastbound side of the East Lancashire Road, between the substation near South Boundary Road and the M57 Junction 5 exit slip road.
Knowsley Council said one lane of the eastbound carriageway would be closed for safety reasons during the works, which are expected to take place between 07:00 and 17:00 each day.
The works will involve the replacement of a pivotal electricity cable along the road between Knowlsley and Bootle.
The council said the upgrades were "essential" for keeping the electricity supply "future ready" because of increasing demand for electric cars and more environmentally-friendly heating.
The authority said there would be some disruption to motorists during the works, but maintained residents would continue to have full access to their homes and businesses.
It said the electricity supply would also be unaffected.
The full schedule of works is as follows:
9 August - 18 October: Coopers Lane to Alchemy Way
15 August - 18 October: Alchemy Way to Junction 5 slip
19 August - 23 September: South Boundary onto Coopers Lane
Work is set to take place on Moorgate Road junction on 13-14 September, 20-21 September and 27-28 September.
