An alleged murder victim's body was found between two parked cars in a Cardiff street, an inquest opening has heard.

Niwunhellage Dona Nirodha Kalapni Niwunhella, who was known as Nirodha, was found dead at South Morgan Place, Riverside, on 21 August.

Thisara Weragalage, 37, of Pentwyn, Cardiff, has been charged with her murder.

Coroner Patricia Morgan adjourned the inquest until the outcome of the criminal proceedings and sent her condolences to Ms Niwunhella's family.

The inquest opening on Friday heard a member of the public spotted Ms Niwunhella's body between two cars at about 07:30 BST.

She was said to have had significant injuries.

A post-mortem examination gave her initial cause of death as multiple sharp force injuries.

Speaking after her death, Ms Niwunhella's family described her as a "cherished daughter, family member and dear friend to many" and said she "touched many lives with her kindness and warmth and her memory will continue to inspire us".
