A healthcare assistant has appeared in court charged with misconduct in connection with the death of a teenage patient at a mental health facility in Nottingham.

Louise Furlong, 19, died at Highbury Hospital on 12 September 2022, the day after an incident allegedly happened.

Sylvia Quaye-Mensah was charged with misconduct in a public office in relation to the incident, which happened while she was on duty.

The 41-year-old agency worker, of Monsall Avenue in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, attended a hearing at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Friday and spoke only to confirm her name and address through a Polish interpreter.

She was granted unconditional bail and is expected to enter a plea at a hearing at Nottingham Crown Court on 24 September.
