A police officer has denied misconduct in a public office over allegations he contacted vulnerable people and started a sexual relationship with one of them.

Det Con Wasim Bashir is alleged to have approached victims of serious sexual offences or domestic abuse during the course of his duties between 2019 and 2022 without any identified policing purpose.

The 54-year-old West Yorkshire Police officer, of Ploughmans Croft in Bradford, denied two misconduct charges at the Leeds Crown Court hearing.

Judge Penelope Belcher set a trial date for 9 February 2026 at the same court.

Det Con Bashir was charged earlier in July after an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

West Yorkshire Police said the officer was currently suspended from duty.
