A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a biker died in a crash.

A motorbike collided with a bin lorry on East Lancashire Road in Fazakerley, Merseyside, at about 06:30 BST, police said.

A man in his 40s, the motorbike rider, died at the scene.

The driver of a third vehicle, a 33-year-old man, is being questioned in police custody.

He is also being held on suspicion of driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs.

Emergency services were called to the westbound carriageway between Moorgate Road and the slip road for the M57 at Kirkby.

The bin lorry driver is helping police with inquiries, the force said.

Det Sgt Andy Roper said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family, who must be understandably devastated by what has happened."

He urged anyone who was travelling in the area at the time and had dashcam footage to get in touch.

The east and westbound carriageways of East Lancashire Road remains closed while investigation work is carried out.

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area.
